The Union is pleased to offer contributions through the donation of advertising space (in print or online) and services as part of our commitment to the communities we serve. We support many groups including educational, cultural, social service, civic, literacy, arts, health and environmental organizations.
Due to an ever-increasing number of requests, it is important that you follow this formal procedure to help us streamline our sponsorship requests. How our program worksDonated advertising is offered on a space available basis. Requests may be made for specific days or sections. We will attempt to honor your requests, but we cannot guarantee specific days or sections. Most sponsorships follow a buy-one-get-one model, but are subject to changes based on the specific request.
To be considered for sponsorship, The Union requests that you participate in our Subscriber Benefits Program, by offering a discount or promotional item to The Union's subscribers who present the card. Please see attached for more information regarding this program and how it can help to better market your event/organization.
All ads should be "camera ready" coming to the newspaper fully prepared and ready for publication one week prior to the date of the first possible insertion. It is preferred that files come to us via email. Details about specific requirements and computer formats will be supplied when a commitment is made by The Union. The Union requests that our logo is included in all promotional materials for the sponsored event or organization. We also request that The Union's logo is included in all print advertising in The Union noting that we are a sponsor of the event. The Union's logo will be supplied in a timely manner to the recipient with size and usage guidelines for placement within the ad.
If you would like The Union to do the design work on your ad or if you desire a guarantee that your ad will run in a particular section on a specified date, you can purchase your ad through the advertising department by calling your Sales Consultant or (530) 477-4241.
The Union prefers to be the sole media sponsor and provides higher consideration when we are. If we share sponsorship with another media, we will print their logo if our name or logo is included in all other advertising.
News or feature coverageA commitment to public service support in no way affects The Union's editorial coverage of an event, group or program. At The Union, the news and advertising departments operate independently of each other; that maintains the integrity of our news coverage and allows us to do what is best from a public service and marketing perspective.
If you are seeking coverage or listings for your event or project, please send appropriate press materials directly to the newsroom by fax (530) 477-4292, email firstname.lastname@example.org or through www.theunion.com. For more information, please call the newsroom at (530) 477-4203.

You can find the community calendar at www.theunion.com, scroll about halfway down the page to the "Event Calendar" and click on "Submit an Event". The event listings will appear online. Events listed under "Arts & Entertainment" on the calendar will also be listed in The Prospector, which publishes in The Union every Thursday.

Evaluation will also be based on the benefit to The Union as a sponsor.
Proof of performance is required - clippings, photos or any other proof of how The Union was recognized for the contribution.
During the evaluation process, we may need to ask you some questions regarding your request to help us make our decision. If your request is approved, you will receive a commitment letter with details of the donation.
